White Sponge, Clathrina sp.

Here are two of many species(?) that sometimes appear in a mature reef stocked with Fiji live rock. Sponges frequently grow in the shade of pieces of rock or reef invertebrates, but the species on the left seems more light-tolerant. Generally sponges are not offered for sale, although we often ship pieces of rock with some sort of coral attached and sponges. Generally, if you have quality live rock and a thriving reef, you will have sponges! But.....if you have angelfish, you probably won't have sponges!
