Purple Sea Urchin

Sea urchins certainly add interest to a reef, but some are destructive, knocking pieces of rock off the reef or feeding on the coralline algae covering the rock. In some species the spines are sharp and sting so working around them is touchy. Occasionally a sea urchin appears in a reef, even though you never bought one! If it is like this one, it is O.K. Although we don't have a name for it, such a specimen costs $12 or more.
