Everyone thought we were INSANE to do a turn-around day trip from the Bay Area on our holiday week off, but it was so worth it, and so much fun picking out pieces! We actually ended up with several hitchhikers-3 different pieces had brown polyps on them (they are thriving, and under the new lights we just put up, showing some green as well), we had two small crabs (not sure if they made it as we've never seen them again), and tons of copepods...I want to tell you how lovely the rock is. When we finally arranged it in the tank, we had some patches of purples, pinks, greens, and red. Four months later, our live rock has more color than I could have hoped for--it's full of color! So seriously full of color-more to it than our girlfriend's tank, which has been running successfully for 7+ years. Just the live rock alone is a delight to look at, I've got to tell you! We've done the rounds of our local stores again (picking up tank inhabitants and frags) and have to tell you. For what we paid you, we would have at best been able to buy brown stinky "cured" rock at any/all of them. The difference is night and day. Can't tell you how happy we are with our purchase. I do have a question though, I am cycling my tank and the ammonia is now dropping and nitrites are soaring upwards and now the live rock is getting light brown patches on them, one brown patch started growing a green patch,lol, but I was wondering if this is algae growth that I should worry about? I have the lights on 8 hours a day and the skimmer off until the nitrites come down and the temp is 77.6, ph 8.4, alk 4.5. I had no issues whatsoever starting up. After about a month of ramping up the lights, I immediately stocked up heavily on my favorite fish and corals--with no changes in water parameters. Today I have a beautiful, healthy bare- bottomed aquarium with plenty of purple, pink and red coralline algae covering everything. It is, I believe, a true testament to your curing methods.
