In-a-Wall System

This system is housed in a wall between a bedroom and a living-dining area. Privacy is achieved by a movable blind on the bedroom side. The fish-invertebrate aquarium is showcased by a hand-carved decorative wooden frame and is the visual focus of all who enter the home.

System Details
The acrylic tank is 55x22x30 (185 gallons). Lighting is two 175watt metal halide bulbs and two 40 actinics, on separate, timed circuits. A circulation pump moves the water and a separate pump returns water from the biological filter (particulate + protein skimmer) in the sump below the tank. A chiller/heater in the sump maintains water temperature at the optimum. Hot air from the cabinet under the sump is vented to the outside through a vent in the wall. This makes it possible to completely close the equipment space and reduce noise in the bedroom.
