Free-Standing System
Visible from entryway, living room, dining room, family room, breakfast
nook, and even up the stairs and on the patio, this 200 gallon invertebrate
reef is the central focus of the home. In the summertime, when the front door is open, the aquarium is visible from the street!
System Details
The acrylic tank is 45x34x32 (212 gallons). Lighting consists of two 250 watt metal halide bulbs and 2 95 watt VHO actinics, on separate timers. Ballasts and controls are concealed under the tank. The canopy has 4 baffled vents and is ventilated by a pair of quiet, efficient fans. Power for the lights passes through a tube inside the overflow tower so that the aquarium is viewable from all sides. A power pump provides water movement in the aquarium and a separate pump returns water from the sump underneath the tank. Filtration is provided by an algal turf scrubber, cooling by a chiller unit; the undertank space is ventilated by fans. The tank contains approximately 260 lbs. of coral and 50-75 species of inverts and fish.
Populated with cured live rock, fish and invertebrates from our tanks, the system looked like this when it was less than two months old!
